it's just a thought…

Friday night I attended 2 performances of Ottmar Liebert + Luna Negra at Denver’s Soiled Dove Underground. I arrived around 20 minutes before the show and finally got to meet Matt Callahan, who I have followed on Twitter, Flickr and a his blog for a few years.

The first show was wonderful, sat back a few feet from the stage but I enjoyed the show. There was a lot of mental interference throughout the show by the waitress passing back and forth to take orders and bring drinks. The band played and I watched.

As most taverns do with 2 show nights the Dirty Bird was cleared of all between performances so I went outside to enjoy the evening. I talked  to Michael Chavez (percussion) for a while and in general enjoyed the air and night sky.

I was able to go in and find my seat for the next performance around 9 PM. As I was entering I literally ran into “Kelly”  and asked her who does her hair… I have been looking for a place that does good work here in Santa Fe. Kelly graciously told me that she has it done in Santa Fe, to which I grinned and stated, “Good, that’s where I live”. She then not only told me where but which stylist to ask for. I agree with all the guys, Kelly rocks!

The 10 PM show was a completely remarkable performance. My seat was directly in front of the famed lava lamp and no one sat between my chair and the stage. (In fact it was so close I could lean on it if I wished). It was from this table that I ordered my food & drink.. and sat back to enjoy the show.

As a fledgling guitarist I wanted to study/watch as Ottmar played this song as it is a fave of mine from his new P-O-P CD.

I did not take a camera to the show, only my iPhone 4. Last year I shot a performance in Houston and when I presented it to Mr Liebert prior to publishing it he commented that “next time” I needed to shoot in HD. Thanks for the suggestion Ottmar, this came out a LOT better

Last Friday Ottmar worked all day in his studio.. shooting video and adding quality audio to this. This morning he posted this video to his special diary.

After a long wait from ticket purchase to show date I learned directly from OL that the Luna Negra XL show slated to happen had been canceled by the mayor.

I feel bad for all that had so planned their Christmas joy around this event. I am disappointed of course, but I have faith that when the time is right it will happen.

Its the first show that I have. Ever had front row seats for… Perhaps the only one that I’ve ever wanted them.

Albie A Katt kept me up half the blanking night.. I should return the favor today so he sleeps tonight.

Tried to get stuff started so i could lay back down.. but Jason showed at the door.. 3 hours later he left, after a chat about God (yeah.. hard to talk to him.. being almost buddhist and all… he doesnt want to hear what I have to say)

I decided that I would take in the new pants I bought..pulled out Janice’s machine.. threaded it.. and it started slowly and ground to a dead stop.. like it ran out of gas.

so I pull out my insanely nice Euro Pro that I so smartly forgot BOTH power adapters to in Oregon…. I figured.. hell I can crank the puppy by hand.. till the effing tension crapped out on me.
How the heck am I supposed to know the speed I hand crank at?

seems that our “in” for getting backstage at the OL concert isnt gonna be there.. I guess its time to pull a rabbit outta a hat and ask for this privledge myself. I guess its an ok thing as I am also going to ask permission to use my zoom lens, and get very up close and personal during the show.. I will promise all rights to the photos for future use with no cost… I know I would sure want someone to ask me if they could aim a zillion foot long spyglass up my face as i made music!

I can see it now.. “Hey Ottmar.. do you mind if I photograph your nosehairs”? I mean.. I have front row seats.. it might be overkill

maybe i should just ask Stevo.. after all.. he reads my myspace
